All registered students, academic and non-academic staff of Nilai University and Nilai International School will automatically become a library member. Student and staff ID Card are considered as the library card.

Library Membership Renewal for Students

  • Students must show their Nilai University students ID cards.
  • Renewal of membership is upon confirmation from EMS.

Orientation and Information

Orientation and Tours
The Library offers a short orientation session designed to familiarise new students and staff with the library resources, services and facilities. During this 45-minute session, students will be introduced to the basic techniques of finding useful information in print and electronic formats from the online catalogue and e-databases.

Information Education Session
The Library provides hands-on Information Skills sessions for staff and students. These sessions are designed to equip library users with skills to utilize the library with basic and advanced techniques for retrieving information from electronic databases.


Computer Lab

Document Delivery
For journal articles and chapters of books that are not available in the library collections, photocopies may be obtained from participating DDS Libraries. Charges apply to all DDS. Please see the librarian for this service.


How to Borrow

Present your valid Nilai University ID card when requesting or borrowing library materials at the Circulation Services Counter.

Note: The Circulation Services Counter closes 15 minutes before the library closing time.


  1. Books initially loaned can be renewed once (1 time) if not required by other users.
  2. Red spot item cannot be renewed.

*Only for academic staff who need to review the audio visual materials for course work pertaining to their programme.

However renewal will not be allowed if:

  • there is a block in your record (due to outstanding fines, overdue or lost item, etc.;
  • the item has been renewed once; or
  • the item has been reserved by someone else.


Please return your loans at the Circulation Services Counter on or before the due date.

Replacement of Lost Items

If you have lost a library item, please report it immediately in order to minimize overdue fines. The borrower may replace the item or pay for the cost of replacing the item, in addition to paying a processing fee of RM10.00 plus fines due until the day that the report was made. Lost items must be replaced or paid for within 1 week of the report.

You may enter the library but your library account will be blocked, which will not enable you to check out or renew any items if:

  • you own a total of RM 5.00 or more in fines;
  • you have loans overdue by 10 days or more;
  • you have outstanding payments or replacement for lost item ; or
  • any email we send you is bounced back.

Note: As a borrower, you are responsible for returning all borrowed library materials on time.

Open Shelf Items

A fine of RM0.50 per day is imposed from the first day the loaned item is overdue to the day the item is returned or until the item is reported lost, excluding Sundays and Public Holidays. Please note that you have to report items that are lost to the Library immediately.

Red Spot Items

A fine of RM0.50 an hour from the time the item loan is overdue till the time the item is returned.

Rules & Regulations

Conduct of LRC Users

All students using facilities in the LRC must observe the following rules. Any infringement may result in the user's suspension from the LRC for the concerned day.

  • Silence shall be maintained in the LRC areas.
  • Hand phones should be on ‘silent‘ or set to "vibrate” mode when entering the library.
  • LRC users without proper attire are not allowed into the LRC.
  • Student ID cards are compulsory for admission into the library and must be promptly displayed upon request by library staff.
  • No bags are allowed into the LRC including laptop bag.
  • The LRC bears no responsibility for any loss of personal belongings on its premises.
  • Smoking and the consumption of food and drinks are not allowed (except water) in the LRC.
  • Reservation of seats is not permitted. Books and other articles left on the tables or chairs will be removed without prior notice.
  • LRC materials and furniture should not be misused or removed from the original place.
  • Tearing pages or mutilation of LRC materials is strictly prohibited.
  • Marking, underlining or writing on LRC materials is strictly forbidden.
  • No littering in the LRC areas. Please use trash bins, to dispose waste.
  • LRC materials taken from the shelfs should not be replaced by the LRC users. Please leave materials on the table or trolley, which has been provided.
  • Disciplinary action will be taken if LRC materials are taken out of the premise without prior official check-out.
  • LRC users should keep in mind copyright issues while copying any material borrowed from the LRC.
  • Failure to receive any notice sent does not relieve a borrower from their responsibility to return library materials by due date.
  • The LRC rules and regulations shall be modified from time to time and shall be binding on all concerned.
Violation of the above rules would result in the forfeiture of your LRC privileges. The LRC may amend the Rules and Regulations as and when necessary.
Open Shelf Collection
The Open Shelf Collection consists of monographic text and additional readings in all subjects taught in Nilai University.
Reference Collection

The Reference Collection consists of almanac, atlases, dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, handbooks and yearbooks. These items are indicated by an 'R' on the spine call number and cannot be taken out of the library.

Red Spot Collection

The Red Spot Collection consists of basic texts and reference books, which are being used extensively. These items are indicated by an 'RS' on the spine call number and placed within close access, behind the circulation counter.

Periodical Collection

The Periodical Collection consists of magazines, newspapers, journals and bulletin.

Audio Visual Collection

The Audio visual collection consists of CDs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, sound discs, sound cassettes, VCDs and videocassettes.

Examination Paper Collection

The Examination Paper collection comprises previous year examination papers from various programmes submitted to the Library. The items can only be used within the Library and are placed within close access, behind the circulation counter.

Teaching Resources Collection

The Teaching Resources collection is reserved for the use of academic staff only. These items are indicated by 'TS' on the spine call number and placed within close access, behind the circulation counter.

Dissertation Collection

The Dissertation Collection consists of project papers from the School of Engineering Science and Technology. They can only be used within the library.

Discussion Rooms

Discussion Rooms are provided for group study. Duration use of the discussion rooms is for 2 hours. Number of users should not be less than 3 but not more than 10 persons. Users must write down their particulars in the discussion room logbook and leave their Nilai University ID card at the circulation counter.

Audio Visual Rooms

The AV Rooms is mainly used for group viewing as seats are available for 25 persons. Students must write down their particulars at the circulation counter before using the room.

Open Access Computer

There are 20 computers with internet access available at library. The students may use the computers on a first-come-first-serve basis. Users have to log in using Nilai University network account. The library offers free wireless access (Wi-Fi) for users who bring their own laptops.

Users are not allowed to access pornographic material, play computer games or use personal copies of multimedia CDs or CD-ROMs on library computers. Library staff is not able to provide technical assistance and no guarantee can be provided that users will be able to make a wireless connection. Users are not allowed to download files, change settings, install software onto the hard disk.


Lockers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis without any charges. Users have to register to obtain the locker key and leave their Nilai U ID card at the circulation counter.

Proquest Ebook Central (formerly Ebrary) is an E-book platform, providing access to E-books from a range of publishers, and covering a wide range of subjects.

Ebsco Business Source Complete is the essential tool for business students with premium full-text content and peer-reviewed business journals. It covers all disciplines of business including marketing, management, accounting, banking, finance and more. Indexes and abstracts; and full text are available back as far as 1886.
