Nilai U students get to do their bit of community work in an island paradise.
Mention Redang Island and images of surf, sand and plenty of fresh seafood will flash in your mind. That was exactly what students from Nilai University (Nilai U) and University Tenaga (Uniten) got when they headed to the island for four days on corporate social-responsibility-cum-homestay trip.
But apart from the many hours of snorkelling and beach fun, the students also got to do their part in a gotong royong project at a local mosque (Masjid Kg Baru Pulau Redang). Helping to clear the large compound of the weeds as well as do light maintenance works, the students made their presence felt.
|"I am very proud of Nilai U students. They displayed good character to gotong royong under the hot sun and showed they know how to work as a team," said Ismail Tahir, senior executive in Nilai U Department of Student Affairs and Sports (DSA), who accompanied the students on this trip.|
|"The main purpose of organising this CSR-cum-homestay trip is to allow the students to learn discipline, and teamwork. They also get to hone their leadership skills in a fun environment and also get to network with peers from another university," says Michael Yei, Director of Nilai U DSA. He adds that his department are planning a similar trip early next year.|
Nilai U administrators believe that the best way to produce well-rounded graduates is for them to be exposed to a variety of learning experiences. It is acknowledged that some of the most valuable lessons are learnt outside the classroom and trips such as these are designed to allow students to fulfil their potentials as dynamic young adults in a safe and supervised environment.
