Yang Amat Mulia Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz was born in Kuala Lumpur. Having completed his early education in Malaysia, he went on to further his studies in the United Kingdom, graduating with a B.A.(Hons) in History and Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1998. He then joined McKinsey & Company, the management consulting firm, for several years, receiving significant international exposure on projects in the United Kingdom, Europe, the USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. In 2004, he joined Khazanah Nasional Berhad in its Investments Division, working on a number of transformational projects and new investments, both in Malaysia and in the region. He left Khazanah in 2010 in order to pursue a degree at the John F Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, graduating in 2011 as an Edward S Mason Fellow with a Master in Public Administration.
In 2009, Tunku Ali was appointed Tunku Besar Seri Menanti, the most senior of the Putera Empat of Negeri Sembilan, by his father, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, DYMM Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir. He is also an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army of Malaysia.
Presently, Tunku Ali is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Munarah Foundation (focused on education, special needs children, healthcare and poverty issues), Founding Trustee of Teach for Malaysia (dedicated to ending education inequity in Malaysia), and a Board Member of Marlborough East (responsible for the set up of Marlborough College Malaysia, the 2nd campus of Marlborough College, UK). He is also on the Boards of Asia Capital Reinsurance Malaysia (regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia), Themed Attractions and Resorts, Destination Resorts and Hotels, and Iskandar Malaysia Studios.
